Erica + Zac’s Engagement Session at NCAR
I met Erica and Zac, and their tree adorable and energetic dogs, at NCAR on a sunny afternoon for their Boulder engagement photography session. We decided to do a hiking session so that their dogs could come along, and picked the NCAR trail for it’s stunning views of both the Flatirons and Eldorado Canyon.
I absolutely love it when my couples choose to bring their dogs along for their Boulder engagement photography sessions. The dogs add a bit of an extra challenge, especially when they can’t be off-leash, and the couples must hold on to the leashes at all times. And if you think your dogs will gladly sit down and look toward my camera automatically, you might be disappointed when they decide that chasing squirrels or sniffing every rock is way more fun. But man, dogs are such a big part of our modern families, and I truly believe they should be a part of their humans’ photos whenever possible!
If you’d like to book a Boulder engagement photography session of your own – with or without dogs 😉 – I hope you’ll contact me so we can make it happen! (Also check out my post with 23 of my favorite Boulder engagement session locations!)
I guess you can say Zac and I had a pretty normal connection: through mutual friends at the gym. The timing just became right after knowing each other a little over a year when we went on our first date. I instantly knew he was the man I needed; he could make me laugh through anything, he loves to travel, and has an insatiable thirst for learning. We both had dogs prior to our relationship, my yorkie and his English bulldog. Zac got a German shepherd, and a year later we added a girl German shepherd to our family. It was a sad day when Zac’s English bulldog, Milton, had to be put down for health issues. Our dogs mean the world to us and we hated seeing them mourn.
Over the 2 years we dated, we went on a 4800 mile road trip, went scuba diving in Mexico, he got me into riding dirt bikes, we camped, and went on a trip to Europe. I fell in love with his laugh, his kindness, and the comfort he brought to my life. On our Europe trip, we stopped through France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Germany. Our first morning in Switzerland, Zac and I went on a walk by the lake. Zac has always been supportive of my hobbies, and I was mid taking pictures of the boats in the lake when he asked me if I could do him a favor. I was caught off guard and answered with “what?” Only to see him holding a ring around front of me.
Zac and I have a world map at home where our hope is to eventually have pins in every country. After we had a chance to get home from our trip, Zac brought up a picture overlooking a beautiful fjord in Norway. I tend to run with ideas, and immediately started planning for our wedding in Norway. It seemed so coincidental that we decided to do an engagement session with Nina who is from Norway. Some things seem like they are fate. I think that’s exactly why Zac and I are together: fate.
