Cadaqués Elopement Location | Cap de Creus National Park | Spain adventure elopement photographer
When I went to visit my friend Marion in Girona this April, she suggested that I might want to photograph a Cadaqués elopement, and that we should drive out to explore the small village on Costa Brava so I could take some photos of it. Cadaqués is an easy drive from Girona or Barcelona, and lies close to the French border.
Now whether Cadaqués is actually in Spain depends on who you ask – most locals I talked to in Girona are strong believers in a Catalonia independent from Spain. The area has been going through a lot of political turmoil these last few years, but not enough to dissuade anyone planning a Cadaqués elopement. Despite large protests in the streets of Girona and Barcelona, resulting in many of the most disruptive protesters being arrested by Spanish police, the area felt completely peaceful to me as a tourist.
Cadaqués is most famously known as the home of Salvador Dali, and an inspiration to artists like Picasso and Gabriel García Márquez. But if you want a Cadaqués elopement, I highly recommend driving out to Cap de Creus National Park right outside of the small town. Cap de Creus is mostly known for its lighthouse, but is also covered in hiking trails and views of the azure ocean. There are lots of small beaches hidden away in little bays, so pack up a picnic bag and hike to find your own private beach!
The town of Cadaqués has a population of around 2600, but this can get up to ten times higher on weekends in summer. I went on a Wednesday in April, and it would have been the perfect timing for a Cadaqués elopement. It was a pleasant 75 degrees, we easily got a table right away at one of the oceanfront restaurants, and most importantly – the narrow and winding road leading into town was not backed up with traffic for miles (a common thing in summer).
