Chateau de la Chevre d’Or Wedding Venue
The history of Chateau de la Chèvre d’Or does not begin as a wedding venue, but surprisingly with Walt Disney. The story goes that Disney spent a lot of time in the village of Eze, and recommended that the owners of the small hotel start buying up surrounding apartments and turning them all into a larger complex. The hotel now has 33 rooms and 8 suites, spread out among various buildings that are all connected in the way medieval towns tend to do.
I first came across Chateau de la Chèvre d’Or wedding venue when looking for epic elopement locations on the French Riviera, and when I found out that it was also a hotel, I was sold. In addition to the luxurious accommodations, the hotel is also home to a 2-star Michelin restaurant of the same name. The hotel also boasts multiple different ceremony sites in its expansive gardens, and are a frequent home to destination proposals and elopements. Having experienced the views for myself, I have to say this venue must have the most beautiful views of any wedding venue on the French Riviera!
I was curious what to expect of the hotel and the small village, and unfortunately showed up in the heaviest rain storm possible – there were even flash flood warnings out for the surrounding area. I wasn’t about to let that stop me from exploring though; as a Norwegian, I’m raised on the saying that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”! Safe from the rain under giant umbrellas with the hotel’s “golden goat” printed on (Chèvre d’Or means the golden goat in French), my friend Vivienne and I explored the gardens and the village of Eze.
The best part of visiting a place like this in the off season (we went in early April) is that there are hardly any tourists around. Add on the rainy weather, and it felt like we had the whole village to ourselves. I’ll take empty streets with rain over packed streets in the sun any day of the week! I also could not stop taking photos of the incredible views of the coast line below us, and the old medieval stone buildings and narrow streets. It would truly be a dream to photograph a Chateau de la Chèvre d’Or wedding overlooking the French Riviera, and hope to return here one day under better weather conditions.
On our second day in Eze, the rain let up, and we were met with the most beautiful sunrise over the Mediterranean sea. After an indulgent breakfast at the hotel restaurant, we headed out to explore Eze, and quickly found ourselves at the very top of the hillside village, where the Jardin Exotique are located. Walking through the exotic garden was such a unique experience, from the beautiful sculptures of women accompanied with poetry, to the exotic cacti and plants brought in from around the world. The cherry on the top was the view of the crystal clear blue ocean below us.

P.S. If you want to elope on the French Riviera, but don’t want to have a to book an expensive wedding venue like Chateau de la Chèvre d’Or, check out the last two photos of this blog post. They are taken from a short and easy hike that leads to a gorgeous lookout cliff that overlooks Monaco and the French Riviera. This spot would be perfect for a more casual elopement or for wedding photos with a view!
