Samy + David’s Backcountry Skiing Engagement

I know Samy and David through mutual friends, and after they got engaged I was so stoked when they asked me to do their wedding photography. While they used to live in Breckenridge, they recently moved to Florida, but since they are having a Breckenridge wedding this summer they decided to do their engagement photos in Colorado as well. And in true Colorado style, they wanted to go backcountry skiing at the top of Loveland Pass.

We talked about everything from standup paddleboarding to a hut trip, but finally settled on backcountry skiing / splitboarding AND rock climbing! (I’ll be sharing their rock climbing photos in a separate post!) I absolutely love it when my couples pick an activity for their engagement sessions, since it brings so much life to their photos! And even better, we scheduled in a brunch break with our friends in Denver in between their sessions.

We did this session on a cold morning in December. It was around 20 degrees at the top of Loveland Pass, not counting the wind chill, but we all bundled up and hiked up to find the perfect slope. Their dog Roxy was hiking along with us, and was having so much fun chasing after picas, while her parents were skiing down the slopes in style! I’m especially impressed that Samy rocked that blue dress in those temperatures, but I think adrenaline kept us all going.

“Nina is amazing. She helped us plan and execute the perfect engagement shoot. I cannot say enough good things about her. She was just as excited as we were for the adventure. She was wonderful working with my dog too. Worth every penny. I am so excited and cannot wait for her to shoot our wedding day as well. The photos turned out beautifully and captured us well, and were very prompt. I love that we get a sneak peek photo very quickly because we all know the hardest part is waiting! We’ve had a lot of good conversations about how we want the day of to go and she had great suggestions. We picked the top package and at first we weren’t sure we wanted to do an engagement shoot because we didn’t need photos for the save the date and we’d gotten good photos at the proposal. I am SO HAPPY we decided to go with the higher package and do an engagement photo shoot. It was very worth it both because the photos were amazing and because we got to know Nina very well.”
