Summer hiking elopement in Crested Butte

Holli + Jake’s Crested Butte Elopement

Crested Butte is one of my favorite towns in Colorado, and Holli and Jake got exactly why I love it there. When the Denver couple first reached out to me, they were already considering CB for their elopement, and it didn’t take much for me to convince them it was perfect for what they wanted.

We started the day together early in the morning—but not sunrise early, because let’s be real, you can get good photos any time of day, even if you don’t want to set your alarm for 3am. Holli and Jake made coffee together in the back of their Tacoma, before we headed higher up in the mountains for a hike.

With a late June elopement, there was still snow blocking many of the higher up passes, and we crossed a lot of snow fields on the trail, but it was worth it for having the whole place to ourselves. With an incredible view down valley behind us, the couple exchanged their private vows with only a handful of wild turkeys and myself as witness.

Afterwards we hiked back down to meet their families and make it official with a moving ceremony that included readings—and being reunited with their pup Zuma. (Yes, she’s named after the Montezuma Bowl at A-Basin.) Zuma even got to sign their marriage license with her paw print on top of their Yeti cooler, which might be the most Colorado thing I have photographed to this day.

A month after their elopement in Crested Butte, I also got to photograph the reception at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art—a joyful party with everyone who could not be a part of their elopement day. (Blog post with photos coming soon.)

If Nina is available you must book her!!! Nina joined us for our elopement this year and I could not be happier with our choice. I cannot recommend her enough, she is an amazing artist and will capture your special day perfectly no doubt. Where I was truly blown away though was how she goes above and beyond with planning and organization outside of photography. You will have organized documents sent to you for all planning and no detail will be lost in the chaos because she thinks of everything.

The day before our elopement Nina went to scout our location (because she is diligent, caring, and organized) and realized that the road was closed due to snow. She contacted us and already had a plan to take the time to go scout other locations with us which was completely outside of the scope of her contract. My husband and I were able to feel calm because we were in such good hands. Nina is also generally just a really cool person and we enjoyed having her there for our intimate moments eloping. I could truly keep going on and on, but you should 100% book with Nina and it will be the best money you have ever spent.”
