Hannah + Josh’s Chautauqua Winter Engagement
Chautauqua Winter Engagement Session | Boulder Engagement Photographer
Hannah and I had been following each other on Instagram for months before her Chautauqua winter engagement session. (She actually asked about my Boulder engagement sessions before she was even engaged!) So when photos of Josh proposing to her on a morning hike showed up in my feed, I was SUPER excited for them!
Only a few hours after their proposal, I had an email from Hannah asking if we could set up a Chautauqua winter engagement session for the new year. We decided to shoot at sunrise on a weekday, both to catch the beautiful morning light on the flatirons, and to avoid the crowds that swarm to Chautauqua on the weekends.
When my alarm went off the morning of January 2nd, I looked at the weather forecast … and shivered. 9 degrees! (That’s -12C for my European friends!) I checked my email and text messages to make sure they weren’t cancelling on me, before bundling up and heading out into the cold. Lucky for me Hannah and Josh were totally down for the freezing cold Chautauqua winter engagement photos!
I love how winter sessions force lots of movement into the photos – it’s too cold to stay still! We hiked around, ran (and slipped) through the snow, and kept getting funny looks from the early morning trail runners passing us – who were appropriately dressed for the weather. Then the sun peaked over the horizon and turned the Flatirons first pink, then gold, and we agreed that it was worth freezing our butts off for. Hannah was even smart enough to bring hand warmers – although as you’ll see, they turned into ear warmers for Josh!
After getting the most incredible light for this Chautauqua winter engagement session, I joked with Hannah and Josh that they had set the bar high for the rest of my engagements this year – and it was only January 2! If you’re looking for Boulder engagement photos at Chautauqua or one of the many other epic trails in town, I’d love a chance to top this one 😉
Just get in touch and let’s make it happen!
