As a local photographer, Flagstaff House is one of my favorite wedding venues in Boulder, and I love getting to work everything from small elopements to big weddings here . (And no, not just because they might have the best food out of any venue in Boulder.) Their patio is one of the best in Boulder, with views looking east over the plains and north towards Mount Sanitas, and it’s such a beautiful place to spend an evening in summer.
Located halfway up Flagstaff Road, a short ten minutes away from Chautauqua, across the road from Halfway House, and fifteen minutes from Sunrise Amphitheater, Flagstaff House is the perfect venue for a small brunch or dinner reception after an elopement at one of the Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks venues—or you can host your whole wedding at the restaurant, with the ceremony out on their large deck in summer or inside the Glass Atrium in winter.
One of the things I love about Flagstaff House is that you can rent out a variety of rooms and terraces—or the full restaurant—depending on your group size. With a buyout, you can seat up to 160 people, while their smallest private dining room seats around 10 people. Large weddings will often use the Glass Atrium for ceremonies and the Flagstaff Room for receptions, but the Glass Atrium is also great for micro-weddings up to 34 people. Because the restaurant is open to diners every day from 5pm-9pm, you will need a full buyout if you want the whole place to yourselves. But if you’re planning an elopement dinner, the small dining room is right off one of the side patios and feels completely private.
Flagstaff House is open year-round, and while late May through mid-October when the patio is open are the most popular months to get married here, winter can be beautiful as well if you want a warm, covered location for your ceremony instead of risking bad weather outside. Flagstaff Road can be a bit sketchy after fresh snow, so if you’re getting married here in winter you should look into renting a shuttle for your guests.
While the decks at Flagstaff House face northeast and don’t have the biggest mountain views, there are so many trails within a quick 10-15 minutes from the venue where you can go for photos before or after your ceremony. Just make sure your photographer has the Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks permit, and that your group size is under 16 people for any photos on OSMP trails.
