FREIGHT is a historic wedding venue and boutique hotel in Leadville, the highest incorporated city in the United States. Originally a train depot and lumber yard built in the late 1800’s, the space was turned into an event space in 2017, and is now available for weddings and micro-weddings from 15-220 people.
The owners have done an incredible job saving this historic landmark, and keeping all the original charm of the space while updating it to make it a comfortable space for events and weddings. The train depot is now the main hall for receptions, and with 32′ high ceilings and the original trusses, the space feels grand. The venue also includes a full service bar, catering kitchen, getting ready suite, and the Whiskey Lime Lounge—an antique shed in the courtyard that’s perfect for sneaking away for couples photos or hanging out with your wedding party before the ceremony.
When booking FREIGHT as your wedding venue, you get chairs, tables, and lounge furniture included with your rental—often an added expense at many venues. The property is exclusive, so you don’t have to worry about sharing any portion of the space with others during your wedding. (The only exception would be for small micro-weddings where you don’t rent out all the cabins.) And importantly for so many Colorado couples—FREIGHT is pet friendly, so you can bring your dog(s)!
One of the unique selling points of getting married at FREIGHT in Leadville is that the property has 13 cabins available for lodging called the S.Lumber Yard. Each cabin has a queen sized bed, and the larger cabins also have pull-out beds great for kids, so you can easily sleep 20-30 of your closest friends and family at the property. The venue is also walking distance from the newly renovated historic Delaware Hotel, and there are plenty of vacation rentals in Leadville, so even larger weddings can easily find room for all guests nearby.
I’ve stayed at the S.Lumber Yard cabins a handful of times now, and they’re all clean, comfortable, and with all the amenities you could need. And as a photographer, I have to love the large windows and natural light—these cabins would be a dream to photograph the getting ready stage of a wedding day in!
Leadville might not be the first mountain town you think of when researching wedding venues, but it’s so underrated, and I think it’s only a matter of time before it becomes as popular as the bigger towns around it like Breckenridge, Buena Vista, and Vail. There are countless beautiful trails nearby, from easy hikes to all-day adventures, and you can easily get the big mountain views without taking too much time away from your celebration at FREIGHT.
